The Miccosukee Arts & Science Symposium 2024 is a collaboration between many communities offering perspectives on an “Everglades In Flux” thru the lenses of Science, Arts, and Community.
The free event will inspire action through educational activities like presentations & poster sessions, creating new relationships, skill shares, art activities, a film festival, and dance party. |

EVERGLADES IN FLUX
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2024 8am to 6am 24 Hours for the Glades #HealTheLand The latest information is on the Eventbrite Link. Spanish language interpretation will be available during the Symposium The event includes a daytime Symposium, an early evening Film Festival, and a late night dance party. 24 hours for the Glades. SYMPOSIUM Opening with a Plenary featuring Indigenous Voices from the Miccosukee Community. Also includes science presentations from Miccosukee Environmental Protection Agency, and FIU's Florida Coastal Everglades Long-Term Ecological Research, and FIU's Centers for Research Excellence in Science and Technology. There will also be Arts & Community workshops presented by local artists, and Latino Outdoors Miami. Community orgs and nonprofits and vendors will be setup with tables and merch all day. A poster session from FIU Researchers will be offered during an afternoon Happy Hour sponsored by Bonefish & Tarpon Trust. FILM FESTIVAL includes 3 programs: COMMON GROUND, about regenerative agriculture, followed by a Panel Discussion with local experts; a SHORT FILM program with films from around the world; and selections from "Wildlife Nation: Expedition Florida" featuring the conservation work of the Miccosukee Tribe.
